Heart-Health News You Can Use
I mentioned before that stress reduction is one of our themes for this year, because so many of us are in need of stress relief, and both acute and chronic stress can cause so much harm to our hearts (and the rest of our bodies and minds). So here is one quick article I wanted to pass along as we consider ways to stay heart healthy this World Heart Day:
And … just in case there was any doubt about the harmful effects of stress on the heart, check out this new study:
You know how much I love the Mediterranean Diet (it’s really not a “diet,” but a lifestyle—a way of eating that is natural, whole-foods based, and one of the best dietary patterns for preventing heart disease and maintaining heart health). So here’s one more reason why:
AI in Medicine
AI is such a hot topic nowadays, in every field—and with good reason. So I’ll be highlighting some of the most important developments and medical AI news in each newsletter.
One of the most promising areas in which AI is showing true benefit is in medical imaging:

Last Week’s Poll Results
This poll result is actually from the week before last:
“Do you check your blood pressure at home?” —> 2/3 of respondents answered, “Yes, occasionally.” 17% said, “Yes, regularly.” And 1/3 answered, “No.”
This means that over 80% of you are checking your home blood pressure at least some of the time! That’s great!! Keep it up! 😍

Answer to the “Test Your Knowledge” Quiz:
D. Both A & C are true.
Extra-virgin olive oil is used very frequently in the Mediterranean way of eating, and indeed, is full of healthy, unsaturated fats and has been associated with improving heart health and fighting inflammation.
Red meat is sometimes seen in Mediterranean recipes, but fish is actually the most commonly used meat protein. This should come as no surprise, given the origins of this dietary pattern in the countries that surround the Mediterranean Sea:
