Fun Ways to Get Fit

Plus, how to spot a stroke

Hello again and happy May!

May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month as well as National Stroke Awareness Month! Since stroke is a form of cardiovascular disease (did you know that?), and since physical fitness plays such an important role in preventing heart disease and stroke, I’ll be featuring articles on both of those topics in Speak for the Heart this month.

And, as always, Premium subscribers get bonus content!

Weekly Heart-Health News: The Highlights

My Take:

I’m a big advocate of having fun while you work out—otherwise, you’re unlikely to stick with it. The article above has 14 ideas for working more fun into your daily exercise routine. There are lots of ways to stay active, even without going to the gym!

Do you have a favorite physical activity, sport, or workout? Please reply to this email and let me know!

My Take:

Since the Kentucky Derby is this Saturday, I thought I’d include this article as well. It’s one of the fun ways to stay fit—you won’t find too many unfit equestrians, after all. Anyone who has ridden a horse can attest to the muscle tone you develop in your glutes and legs, and even spine! It’s also an amazing source of stress relief, which we know is much needed for heart and whole-body health.

Have you ever ridden a horse? If so, it may be time to get back in the saddle! 😉 If not, you may want to learn how! Check online for horseback riding lessons and stables in your area.

My Take:

It’s so important to know how to spot a stroke, because every minute counts! You can remember the acronym “FAST,” as demonstrated in this 15-second video, to learn the warning signs of stroke.
