Weekly Heart-Health News: The Highlights

My Take:

In last week’s issue, I introduced you to Dan Buettner’s concept of the Blue Zones. And as I wrote then:

“For years, I have found Dan Buettner’s research on the Blue Zones to be fascinating. I don’t always agree completely with his conclusions, but his research is sound enough to warrant the attention it receives. We can learn a lot from the world’s longest-living people!”

This is another article from the Blue Zones, and I’d be very interested to see if you can guess what might be included in this longest-living family’s daily lunch! (I personally guessed only one major ingredient.)

And if you’d like more optimism and happy news on a regular basis, I’ve just launched a newsletter for that: Positive Vibes! You can subscribe for free here:

My Take:

I love this one. “Besides burning a few calories a minute, kissing may be good for heart health.” (You can read the results of the study in the article!)

There are science-based, physiological reasons for this.

As the article notes, “When we share affection with somebody, it lowers our stress hormones.” And numerous studies have found that being in a healthy intimate relationship lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease and depression, partly by lowering stress, improving immunity, and increasing resilience; but also by decreasing loneliness.
