Weekly Heart-Health News: The Highlights

My Take:

Thank you to the Speak for the Heart community member, Patti, who brought this article to my attention!

For years, I have found Dan Buettner’s research on the Blue Zones to be fascinating. I don’t always agree completely with his conclusions, but his research is sound enough to warrant the attention it receives. We can learn a lot from the world’s longest-living people!

With regard to this particular characteristic, happiness, I found it so interesting—but not at all surprising—how many of the 15 metrics listed in this article have to do with good physical health, too. Check them out: how many of the 15 can you say “yes” to?

And, if you’d like to read more about how the world’s longest-living people also tend to be the world’s happiest (or is it the other way around, hint, hint?), here’s the book on which the article is based. I’ve just ordered it myself!

My Take:

I find I can always learn something or pick up a few pointers from pro athletes. In this article, pro surfer Laird Hamilton and beach-volleyball legend Gabby Reece, both in their 50s, talk about how they find time to stay fit and stick with it. It’s good advice for everyone, no matter your current fitness level!
